Kenwick Park golf: Paul earns John King Trophy honours after superb round
Despite the conditions, Paul Smith (18) scored an excellent 37 points to win, five points clear of Jeremy Hexton (18) who took second on countback from Alan Smaggasgale (13).
This competition was sponsored by John King who donated all the entry fees to the senior captain’s charity.

Hide Ad* The second of the six-round nine-hole competition was played for the George Penrose Salver.
With the three best scores deciding the winner, Richard Kissane (28) won, adding 22 points to his total and reducing his handicap by two shots. Sam Mountain (8), was runner-up with 20 on countback from Andy Jaines (15).
* A record 161 entrants competed for the Sam King trophies.
Alistair and Julie Harvey presented these silver claret-jug shaped trophies, in memory of Sam King, a famous pre and post-war golfer who lived on the Kenwick Estate when it was owned by Alistair’s father.

Hide AdAlistair and Julie provided a barbecue at the new halfway house and donated £344 to Kenwick Park’s junior section from the entry fees.
Ben Darke (8), who holed in two at the par four fifth hole, scored a great 39 points to win the trophy on a countback from Sam Done and reach a plus-three handicap.
Another countback, on 38, gave third place to Richard Bruntlett (19) from Kieron Spencer Chaplin (5) and Dave Foxon.
Bridget Hardaway (25) played very well to win the ladies’ competition with 37 points, four clear of Jenny Rickett (18) who was second on countback from Sandra Crow (13).

Hide Ad* At the end of a busy weekend, 12 couples tackled windy conditions to play for the Bank Holiday Mixed Trophy.
Last year’s men’s captain Steve and wife Mabel Blackburn combined well in this betterball, scoring 40 points to lift the trophy.
Alan and ladies’ vice-captain Andrea Smaggasgale were second with 38 on countback from men’s captain Graham Sykes and wife Sue.
* In the national Mail on Sunday competition, the Kenwick Park men’s team, led by Steve Ashby, achieved an impressive 5-0 home win over Serlby Park.

* Only 12 hardy ladies completed an 18-hole medal for the Champ de Bataille trophy, commemorating the Kenwick ladies’ national Mail on Sunday win back in 1995.
Despite high winds and heavy rain, Tracey Stobart produced an excellent score of 96-17=79 to secure her second trophy of the season. Her playing partner Sue Fisher was runner-up with 95-14=81.
