A key district council planning document, which will control developments for new homes, should be finished this spring.

East Lindsey District Council has been strongly criticised by many town and parish councils for delays in producing a Local Plan.

It will cover a range of issues, including sites for housing and commercial developments - and the number of new homes allocated to specific town and villages.

A draft plan was recalled a couple of years ago after a Government inspector indicated it would never be ratified because it was flawed in several areas, including the number of new homes to be built across the district and a lack of suitable sights for travellers.

ELDC leader Coun Craig Leyland indicated it could be later this year before the revised plan was finished and said it would be pointless rushing the document, only for an inspector to reject it.

However, Anne Shorland, planning policy manager at ELDC, told a meeting of Horncastle Town Council, that the document should be ready to start the consultation process in spring.
