Grant award helps Wragby to raise the roof

The money has come from the Government-funded Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund.

The renewal of the lead guttering and tower roof, together with associated timber repairs, will replace lead coverings that have been in place for more than 100 years.

The work will stop the leaks that have been occurring at intervals over the last few years and give the church a new lease of life for the next 80 years for worship and service in the community.

“We are most grateful to the Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund for their generosity in helping secure the future of this Victorian church building that is in the heart of the community,” said a PCC spokesman.

The church opened in 1838 replacing a former church which was demolished as a result of severe subsidence.

The ruined foundations of the earlier church can be seen in the old churchyard beyond the end of Cemetery Way.

The work being undertaken will be the second time the lead gutters and tower roof have been renewed since the original construction.
