From February 13-21, the popular attraction will host brand new mini plays by Time Will Tell Theatre, based on research for the Lincoln Castle Revealed project.

There are four different performances to enjoy, each lasting 10-15 minutes. They are set between the Victorian era and World War One and feature specially-created characters.

Jon Hogan, heritage public engagement manager, said: “We’ll be taking visitors back to a time of increasing crime and trouble on the city streets.

“Newspapers are reporting terrible deeds by desperate men! What’s to be done? Queen Victoria would be shocked indeed!

“Join our costumed characters as we explore some lesser known sides of the prison’s history. Why was it built? How did it work? Why, after such a short time, did it close?

“Throughout each day our characters will tell dramatic stories from the point of view of the men and women who worked at the prison, leaving you free to make up your own mind up about how effective a deterrent to crime it was.

“It’s the ideal way to keep the kids entertained during the half term break. It’d be criminal to miss it.”

Performances will take place in atrium of the male prison and the first floor of the female prison, and will run from 11am to 3.30pm.

Langton’s Café will also be serving hot and cold meals, drinks and tasty treats each day with a changing menu of daily specials.
