Who will crack under the pressure?

The world’s best players are flying in from as far afield as Thailand, Norway, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands and Bulgaria to pit themselves against each other in an epic clash of the titans for the title of World Champion in what has become a key attraction in the annual Swaton Vintage Day held on Sunday June 26.

Germanys top tossers, who were favourite, are set to have their mettle tested by not only the Dutch and English but now by the newcomers from Bulgaria.

According to lead organiser Andy Dunlop, the Mitev Boys from Sofia are flying in with great hope. Yordan, 30, and Mikel, 28, have perfected their throw and catch technique and are intent on taking the title and trophy home.

Andy said: “They’ll have their work cut out though as the Dutch are sending their secret weapons. The World Record Throw and Catch of 76.73 metres is at risk.”

The championships are split into several categories: to person throw and catch, static relay, egg trebuchet, target throwing and the infamous Russian Egg Roulette

Over the last 11 years the event has drawn massive crowds and raised tens of thousands for charity. Since the inception of the World Championships, national events are now held worldwide.

Swaton Vintage Day features over 400 vintage vehicles, a fun fair, real ale, crafts and refreshments. The site is at Thorpe Latimer, between Swaton and Helpringham, admission £5 adults, £3 OAPs, £3 children, under 5s free, £12 family ticket. Entry to games is free (except target throwing).
