East Midlands based quartet ‘The New Bag’ are joined by international jazz luminary Tony Kofi for a special performance at The Terry O’Toole Theatre in Lincoln on Friday November 6.
The group will play a range of material, delving into the catalogue of the iconic Bluenote label, home of Blakey, Monk, Mingus and other greats of the 1960s hard-bop movement, as well as playing more contemporary arrangements.
Nottingham born Tony Kofi is a major player on the UK and International jazz stage, having won the Best Instrumentalist Award at the 2008 BBC Jazz Awards, as well as winning Best Ensemble at the 2005 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
He has collaborated and worked alongside many renowned musicians during his career, including jazz legends Ornette Coleman and David Murray.
The New Bag, including Jazz Vehicle’s Andrew Wood on drums, have recently played alongside tenor saxophonist Julian Siegel, as part of an EMJAZZ (East Midlands Jazz) project in Derby and Nottingham.
