Choir aims to hit the high notes at Horncastle St Mary’s concert

Horncastle Choral Society is holding final rehearsals for its concert on Saturday May 9 at St Mary’s Church (7.30pm).

The programme includes Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C major (with soloists from within the choir) and excerpts from Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss.

Members are hoping to sing to a full house.

The choir holds two concerts a year, in May and December, and buoyed up by great ticket sales at its Christmas concert, has continued to go from strength to strength, so much so that choir membership is at full capacity.

Associate Musical Director, Caroline Chadderton, said: “For the first time in the choral society’s history we have a ‘full house’ of singers – more than 50 – so it’s always fun getting everyone organised at rehearsal.

“We practice for two hours every Monday and as we like to put on as varied a programme as possible, there’s always a lot to get through.

“However, the choristers accomplish a great deal in a short space of time, and we have a laugh or two as well during rehearsals, which is essential when we’re all working so hard.

“In addition to the Mozart and the Strauss, we’re also performing a selection of four sea shanties, from a collection by Alec Rowley, called The Sailors’ Garland; also Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, so there will be music to cater for everyone’s taste,” said Caroline.

“We do hope to see everyone there – a warm welcome and a melodious evening are guaranteed.”

Tickets (which are also the concert programmes) are £5 each and there will be drinks at the interval (a small extra charge).

It is possible to buy tickets on the door, or by emailing Caroline at
