Woodhall Spa Tennis Club’s teams have been busy with the Mixed Team playing their first match of the summer against Horncastle in the first round of the Leggot Cup.

The two clubs met in the first round last year with Horncastle winning narrowly by 5-4 before going on to win the cup.

This year the result was reversed in some style with Woodhall coming out on top by 8-1. Playing for Woodhall were Sam Parker and Robert Scott, Lydia Walker and Ant Hawkins, Sue and David Leggate.

The following week the team played Boston 1 in the league and notched up a 6-3 victory. The team comprised Sam Parker and Dan Freeman, Alison Lauder and David Leggate, Bridgett Scott and Ant Hawkins.

Meanwhile the Ladies 2nd team have played their first two matches in Division 2 having gained promotion last year.

The standard of play in this higher league is proving a challenge with the team fighting hard but falling short in both clashes. Against a very experienced team from Collingham the ladies lost 3-6. Playing were Wendy Harrison and Lorraine Shepherd, Alison Lauder and Wendy Baxter, Penny McQuade and Jenny Caswell.

The following week Lorraine and Alison, Wendy and Wendy, Bridgett Scott and Bev Parker played Appleby Frodingham and lost 8-1.

Team spirits remain high and the ladies are hoping to improve their results in forthcoming encounters.
