Woodhall Spa Tennis Club men’s team have enjoyed a good start to their season, having played two matches, winning both and are currently sitting at the top of their league.

They played Boston 3rd, winning 6-3. Dave Leggate and Dan Freeman, Alex Coupland and Barrie Craigs each won three rubbers. Dave Little and Paul Davis played well but did not manage a win, despite their best efforts.

The team also beat Rushton 2nd away on a very blustery day that made tennis conditions very difficult, but again ran out winners, 6-3. Dave Leggate and Dan Freeman won three rubbers, Alex Coupland and Barrie Craigs won two and Neil Haynes and Dave Little won one.

Meanwhile, the mixed team lost to Boston 2nd by a 7-2 scoreline. Playing for Woodhall were Sue Leggate and Dan Freeman, Alison Lauder and Barrie Craigs, and Jenny Caswell and Paul Dudgeon.

The team tackled Boston 3rd in another match but were again on the losing end, by 6-3. Team members were Dave Leggate and Jenny Caswell, Dan Freeman and Sue Leggate (who won all their three rubbers), and Wendy Baxter and Paul Dudgeon.

Last week the team had greater success against Billinghay in the second round of the Leggate Cup, with Woodhall coming out on top and winning 6 -3. Dan Freeman and Bridgett Scott won all three of their rubbers, Ant Hawkins and Wendy Baxter won two, and Lorraine Shepherd and Paul Dudgeon won one.

The club is holding a parent and child mini tournament on Sunday, July 12, starting at 10.30 a.m. For further details contact Jenny Caswell on 01526 353341.
