Woodhall Spa Tennis Club ladies’ teams have both met with success in recent weeks.

The second elite team played against Boston 5th in what proved to be a very close encounter, with the match tied at 3-3 after the first two rounds.

The tension increased when all three matches went to a tie-break in the last round but Woodhall just managed a cheeky 5-4 win overall. Playing for Woodhall were Lorraine Shepherd and Wendy Baxter, Helen and Zoe Mair, and Kate Liddy and Penny McQuade.

The ladies’ first team, still looking for their first win of the season, took on St James’ first team from Grimsby, and Woodhall were delighted to emerge victorious by 6-3.

Lydia Walker and Alison Lauder won all three of their rubbers, and Sam Parker and Helen Mair won two. Bridgett Scott and Jenny Caswell won one and only lost one of their others on a tie-break.

l Members recently went down to the club two weeks ago to enjoy tennis and a hog roast and to see how the clubhouse/courts refurbishments are progressing. A good, sociable afternoon was had by all.

The next club event is on Friday when an adult social night will held. All members are invited down to the club along with a picnic, liquid refreshments and a racquet. A doubles tournament will be organised for those who would like to participate (names out of a hat) and there will be champagne for the winning couple.

Tennis is optional and spectators are encouraged to come down and just enjoy the evening and ambience.

Non-members (over-18s) are welcome for a nominal charge of £3 per person.
