TENNIS: Horncastle juniors put Tealby and Louth to the sword

Horncastle Tennis Club has had a busy weekend of matches, but there were plenty of victories to celebrate.

On Saturday afternoon Horncastle hosted a triangular junior match between Horncastle, Tealby and Louth.

Horncastle’s team of Ben Tyrrell, Ross Armstrong, Christopher Bargh and Freddie Dobbin played Tealby first and made a good start with Ben, Ross and Freddie all winning their first round singles and Christopher drawing his.

In the doubles round Ben and Ross won and Christipher and Freddie lost. The last round was singles again and this time Ross and Christopher won both their matches but Ben and Freddie lost. It was still enough to give Horncastle the win 6-4.

In the last round Horncastle played Louth. Ben had his toughest match so far but just managed a two all draw. Horncastle won all the remaining singles and doubles to win the match 9-1.

And parents and supporters were able to watch the matches from the comfort of the new clubhouse for the first time.

On Sunday morning the winter league team of Steve Holmes and Neil Lea and Paul Bargh and Simon Barber played Boston.

Steve and Neil played a great first round beating Boston’s first pair in straight sets. Unfortunately that was the only rubber won so Horncastle lost 6-2.

As soon as the morning match finished the first ladies veterans team took to the courts to play Gainsborough. Jane Clark and Shirley Sutton and Sue Bowser and Jenny Golland won 7-1 with the loss of only 13 games all afternoon.
