Brother and sister Joe and Grace Sheldon both won their matches in different age groups for Horncastle Tennis Club this week.
On Saturday the junior teams played in the County League held at Boston Tennis Club on the indoor courts. The opposition this week was Tennis Buddies from Woodhall Spa.
The U8 team of Hannah Downs, Sam Baxter, Grace Sheldon and Jessica Frick only lost one match each in the singles and Hannah only narrowly lost her fourth match 9-8. This meant the team were 12-4 up with the doubles left to play. The first pairing of Hannah and Sam played some great tennis to win their tough match and then Grace and Jessica followed suit and finished with a win too, so overall 14-4 to Horncastle.
The U9 team of Turner Kingswood and George Billington had some tight sets but didn’t manage any wins.
The U12 team this week was Ross Armstrong and Joe Sheldon. After the singles rubbers the score stood at 2 rubbers all so the doubles would decide the match. It proved to be an exciting match with Ross and Joe taking an early lead and then Tennis Buddies fighting back. It eventually finished with a tie break which Ross and Joe won, so a 3-2 win for Horncastle and an overall team win too.
Unfortunately the ladies first Vets team didn’t do so well against strong opposition from Grantham Tennis Club. Shirley Sutton and Sue Bowser managed to win two close sets, but Jenny Golland and Jane Clark didn’t manage any wins so 6-2 to Grantham.
