TENNIS: Horncastle dominate boys triangular matches

Horncastle Tennis Club had a very busy Saturday with no less than five teams competing around the county.

Quite an organisational feat making sure everyone was in the right place at the right time for the captains and coaches.

The junior boys team travelled to Louth and played the third leg of the triangular matches between Louth, Tealby and Horncastle. Horncastle were defending their 2-0 lead in the series.

Ross Armstrong narrowly lost his first singles rubber against Louth but then went on to win his remaining matches. Ben Tyrrell, Christopher Bargh and Freddie Dobbin won all their matches so Horncastle won 7-1 against Louth and 8-0 against Tealby.

The Mini Red U8 team played Eastgate Lincoln in the County league at Boston Indoor Tennis Centre. Playing this week were Max Wilson, Redford Bramley, Rowan Bramley and Turner Kingswood.

The boys produced some very good tennis, continuing to show improvement week on week. The opposition was strong and Max did well to win two of his matches. Turner also managed a win in his singles and then teamed up with Rowan to win a close doubles. Final score 14-4 to Eastgate.

The U9 Orange team of Ella Rennie and Lucas East again showed improvement but lost all their matches to much stronger opposition.

In the U10 Green match Alexander Armstrong played a mature game of tennis to win his first singles rubber, but didn’t manage to beat his second opponent.

Joe Sheldon lost both his singles matches. Alex and Joe teamed up play an exciting tie break doubles. From 6-2 down the boys played some amazing doubles with great volleying to pull the score back to 6 all. Sadly the boys eventually lost 8-6 so 4-1 to Eastgate overall.

Playing at home for the ladies first team this week were Sue Bowser and Jenny Golland and Sally Speed and Karen Stott, the opposition was Grimsby Tennis Centre.

Sue and Jenny won all 4 of their sets in fine form, only losing 4 games all afternoon. Sally and Karen played well too only losing one set. A 7-1 win for Horncastle.
