Woodhall Spa Tennis Club were delighted with the great turnout for their first Mini Haribo Tennis Tournament of the season at Jubilee Park.

Thirty children and parents turned out to play and everyone enjoyed some excellent tennis, with plenty of closely fought matches.

The mini red tournament was won by Ivy and Rebecca Hockley with 44 points, closely followed by Alice and Alison Lauder in second place with 43. In third place were Anthony and Barry Craigs with 42. Also winning Haribo prizes in the mini reds were Hannah and Alison Lauder, Riya and Shreeta and Violet and Rebecca Hockley.

The mini green tournament was won by Izzy and Lou Leggate who were undefeated with 80 points, and Holly and Katie Impy were not far behind with 76. Third were Olivia and Charlie Maplethorpe with 69.

Also winning Haribo prizes in the green league were Milly and Julie Radford, Luke and Stuart, Freya and Tom, Charlotte and Alison Lauder, Annabel and Lindsey Walters and Josh and Andrew Wortley.

Meanwhile, the club’s adult members have started their summer matches.

The ladies’ first team played a home match against Louth Indoor second team and were worthy winners by six rubbers to three. Playing for Woodhall were Sue Bowser and Helen Mair, Alison Lauder and Jenny Caswell, Wendy Harrison and Wendy Baxter.

Sue and Helen won two of their matches convincingly and were gifted the third due to one of the Louth players retiring due to injury. Alison and Jenny narrowly lost to Louth’s first couple on a deciding tie-break and then won their other two matches, including winning against the 2nd couple on another deciding tie-break). The two Wendys lost against the first and second couples but beat the third couple, and followed Alison and Jenny’s example by doing so on a deciding tie-break.

A date for the diary is the weekend of May 28/29 when Beer Festival in the Park two-day event with live music takes place, organised and run as a joint venture by the cricket and tennis clubs. All events can be found at
