Jade Windley saw her dreams of ladies singles stardom at next week’s Wimbledon disappear at the first round of qualifying.
The Tattershall based star was beaten in straight sets by Germany’s Carina Whitthoeft.
Windley, ranked 318 in the world, put up a terrific fight in the first set but went down 7-5.
However, the German, worked ranked 176, took the second set 6-1.
Windley, who has been battling a back injury for most of the year, still has the ladies doubles and, possibly, the mixed doubles to keep alive her hopes of playing in the world’s top tournament.
She will have to qualify in the ladies doubles with partner Sam Murray and is waiting to see if her application to play in the mixed with fellow Lincolnshire star Dan Cox has been accepted.
