Students from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School stormed the annual Lincoln District Sailing Association Regatta at Hykeham Sailing Club on Thursday, coming home with two trophies.

Beckett Marshall, 15, took first place in the Topper class, with Roisin Waters, 17, achieving second place, and Adam Kemp, 15, third. All three sailors not only beat the competition from other Lincolnshire schools, but also managed to finish ahead of a competitor who is set to sail at the Topper Worlds at Lake Garda later in the summer.

And all Horncastle’s 16 participating students can be proud of their achievements.

QEGS Sailing Club runs during the summer months, with students travelling to Hykeham Sailing Club to sail and develop their racing skills. Staff and sixth form students who have gained RYA Instructor qualifications will be running Learn To Sail courses over the summer. For more information, see the LDSA website.

Mr O’Neill, who runs QEGS Sailing, is planning to extend participation to Banovallum students next year. The school’s sailing club has been running since the 1980s.
