Young rugby players from St Hugh’s School, Woodhall Spa, enjoyed the opportunity to develop their game with 10-time English champions Leicester Tigers as part of a Matchday Coaching Clinic last Saturday.
Tigers Matchday Coaching Clinics, supported by energy efficiency experts Mark Group, give players the opportunity to work with the club’s coaches on their individual and team skills.
Coaching Clinics also provide a chance to talk to a Tigers first-team player about professional rugby at the biggest club in the country, before joining a bumper crowd at Welford Road to watch a first-team game and see the professionals put those techniques into practice.
The St Hugh’s group watched Tigers reach the Aviva Premiership semi-finals with a 22-14 victory over Northampton Saints, and even managed to follow in the players’ footsteps by having a team photo taken on the pitch at half time with Tigers stars Tom Croft and Laurence Pearce in front of a 24,000 capacity crowd.
St Hugh’s rugby coach Matt Vella accompanied the players on to the pitch and said: “The training session we did with the Tigers coaches was fun and informative, plus it was something different for the players.
“Being here and getting to watch a great game tops off the Coaching Clinic. The game was tense and enjoyable. Also, to walk on to such a well known pitch is huge and it is pretty cool for all of us.”
