Six talented sports students from Barnes Wallis Academy experienced an inspirational day at Nottingham University led by Ben Pipes, Team GB’s 2012 Olympic Men’s Volleyball Captain.

The students were able to learn about Ben’s story of success towards the London 2012 Olympics.

They also did some performance profiling, goal setting and scenario work of their own.

Ben said: “It has been a great pleasure to work with the students. Even over the short time that we have worked together it is fantastic to see how much they have grown as students, athletes and people.

“The path to success within sport is never simple or easy, so to see the qualities required to navigate this path in these students has been inspiring for me and should serve as an inspiration to the classmates and schools they return to.”

Barnes Wallis students Morgan Randles (table tennis), Daniel Preston (football), Sarah Dickson and Abbie Wright (both netball) were selected to attend the Talent Day.

One student said: “We learnt some great skills in goal setting and communication.

“I think everyone will take something from today and put it towards not only our sport, but our everyday lives.”
