NETBALL: Horncastle club celebrates successful season

The 2014-2015 season in the Lincolnshire Junior Netball League was a great one for Horncastle Belles Netball Club, the club’s best since their 2008-2009 campaign.

This year, for the first time, the club ran an under-11 squad, playing High 5 netball, the massively popular entry game designed specifically for children aged 9-11. And what a memorable year it proved to be, with the team gaining first place in both the winter and summer leagues, winning 41 of their 46 matches, scoring 460 goals yet conceding only 73.

Other age groups in the club also recorded great success,

The under-12s finished third in the winter league but took top spot in the summer league, being awarded ‘best attack’ for their age group with a goal average of 21 goals scored per game. The under-12 also finished sixth out of 11 teams at the East Midlands Regional Under-12 Tournament, playing against the top teams from the region’s counties and winning half of their games, exceeding expectations.

The club’s under 14s finished fourth out of 15 teams in the winter league, being awarded ‘best defence’ for their age group with a goal average of only five goals conceded per game.

The under-13s from the under-14 squad took the runners-up spot in the under-13 summer league.

The under-16s finished seventh out of 17 teams in the winter league, with the under-15s from the squad coming third in the under-15 summer league.

The club expressed its thanks to all players, coaches, umpires, team managers and parents for the fantastic support given throughout the year, all of which was much appreciated and instrumental in the club’s on-court success.

The club is now on its summer break, but pre-season training starts on Sunday, August 23. The club is keen to welcome new members at all ages (9-16 years).

Anyone interested in joining the club should just pop along to a training session (Sunday mornings from 9.30am to 11am at Horncastle Community Primary School) or email for more information. The club would also like to hear from anyone interested in coaching netball.
