Ely City 1sts 2

Horncastle Hockey Club’s Men’s Firsts have made a strong start in their bid to bounce back from relegation.

Short corners proved clinical with Bennet scoring two drag flicks to make it 2-0 and White flicking in a third.

Ely looked like fighting back but for all their efforts, and two more Horncastle goals, it was 5-2 at half time.

In a fast-paced second half, Horncastle dominated and ran away with the match, scoring another seven goals including debut goals from White, Harris and J. Cullen to make the final score 12-2.

Man of the match was awarded to Max Cullen on his debut for the club.

Louth 1sts 5

Horncastle Men’s 2nds 0

The Men’s Seconds made the short trip to Louth for their first fixture of the season.

The game promised to be a difficult one with Louth having a strong midfield and experience in their defence.

Louth dominated possession and Horncastle struggled to mount any attacks during the first half.

Lammi and Bee worked tirelessly in midfield but Horncastle trailed 2-0 at the break.

Louth succeeded on the break in the second half, winning 5-0.

Woodhall Spa 1sts 2

Horncastle Ladies 2nds 7

The newly-formed Horncastle Ladies’ Seconds began life with a win at Woodhall Spa.

Stephanie Brawshaw gave Horncastle the lead as she powered into the D, kept her composure and spun around to shoot on goal, slotting the ball neatly in at the far post to open the scoring.

Woodhall levelled but goals from Carly Neame, Jess Wood and Lauren Bingham saw the away side lead 4-1 at half time.

Wood and Neame made it 6-1 after the break before Catherine Corey added number seven.

While Horncastle’s lead was commanding, Spa had the final say as they grabbed a consolation.
