Horncastle Mens 2nd XI 1-5 Alford & District 2nd XI

Horncastle started the match slowly, as per usual, and found themselves 3-0 down going into the second half.

Town scored their goal early in the second half from a short corner taken by George Dann to Dave Legate, to Jack Read who put the ball into the back of the net.

Horncastle suffered from poor passing and lack of attacking edge for most of the game, which allowed Alford to score two more goals in the second period.

At 5-1 down, during an Alford attack, the Horncastle ‘keeper, Anthony Atkins, sustained a knee injury requiring Andy Mitchell to move from centre back to ‘keeper. Atkins looks set to be out for at least a couple of weeks.

Despite being a man down due to lack of subs, Horncastle started playing well for the final 20-minutes of the game.

Unfortunately this didn’t result in a goal, but Horncastle were able to take some positives from this late period where the ball was passed around the pitch well and the Alford goal was tested several times.

Man of the match: Andy Mitchell.

Team: A. Atkins, G. Doubleday, A. Mitchell, D. Booth, P. Wright, D. Leggate, J. Read, G. Read, N. Moody, R. Wilson, G. Dann
