Hockey club's away wins

Horncastle Hockey Club's Men's and Ladies' first teams both returned from Peterborough with victories this weekend.

However, there was no such luck for the second teams, who both saw games abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

On a bleak and miserable day, Horncastle’s Men’s Firsts made the journey to City of Peterborough in search of their third win in a row.

After a frustrating start Horncastle fell into their rhythm, winning a number of penalty corners.

After a Tom White flick pinged off the post on the second, Nick Bennett stepped up and converted the third, giving Horncastle a 1-0 lead.

Horncastle sustained their momentum, despite pressure from Peterborough on the break.

Another Bennett flick doubled Horncastle’s advantage shortly after.

The first half ended with Horncastle leading 2-0.

Horncastle came out looking to play more clinical hockey in the second half.

However, after a strong start Peterborough started to find cracks in the away side’s defence.

Peterborough clawed a goal back through a well-executed penalty corner.

From the re-start Horncastle were back on the offensive, looking to take back control of the game.

A quick attack saw Bennett win, and subsequently convert, a penalty flick, completing his hat-trick and restoring Horncastle’s two-goal advantage.

Rob Scott coolly slotted home a fourth, securing the three points and a thirrd straight victory for the side.

East League - EWL Division 3NW

City of Peterborough Ladies’ 3rds

Horncastle Ladies’ Firsts travelled to City of Peterborough, winning 4-1 against the Thirds.

Five minutes into the game a long ball was sent from Emily Tokelove, just inside the attacking half, to Izzy Williams.

She took a beautiful touch to score the opening goal.

Peterborough came back strong but Horncastle gained back position, Jess Wood feeding the ball into Tamsin Roark who slotted home the second goal.

In the second half, Brit Esterhuizen scored next from a rebounded ball off the Peterborough keeper.

Horncastle then gave away an unfortunate flick which Peterborough converted to make it 3-1.

Alice Cannon then drove down the right side of the pitch and passed to Tamsin Roark, who pushed the ball round the keeper for the final score to be 4-1.
