Andy Mitchell and Antony Atkins shared the man of the match award as Horncastle ‘shut out’ rivals Sleaford last Saturday to register a deserved victory.

First half goals from Rob Scott and Jack Reed put Horncastle in a strong position and Atkins sealed the success after the interval with a neat finish.

It was no more than Horncastle deserved as they look to maintain their position at the top of the table.

After a steady start, Horncastle slowly built some pressure and their hard work paid off after 20 minutes when Scott pounced on a loose ball to score.

Encouraged by the goal, Horncastle forced a few short corners but Spalding showed plenty of determination in defence.

However, it was Horncastle who went further ahead when a quick counter-attack created the position for Reed’s shot to deflect off the Spalding ‘keeper and into the back of the net.

In the second half, Horncastle continued to play well but Spalding also upped their game and that led to some exciting end-to-end hockey.

Spalding won a short corner after one attack but Horncastle’s strong defence dealt with it, without a problem.

The third and final goal of the game went to Horncastle as Reed’s pass sent Atkins through on goal and he calmly found the top corner of the net.
