Jim Gillespie was crowned Midlands champion after a personal best effort at the Masters Throws Pentathlon Championship at Derby.
Gillespie started well with his second best throw ever in the hammer (23.35m). This was followed by a solid 8.74m in the shot and 26.07m in the discus.
He then consolidated his winning position with an 8.98m throw in the heavyweight hammer. The final score of 1885 points was also a personal best.
A delighted Gillespie said: “Days like these really make the training worthwhile. Midlands Champion and a personal best, it may be a major understatement, but that’s a great day out.”
