Wragby father and son athletes Jim and Kieran Gillespie were in action at Loughborough on Wednesday.

Kieran returned to competition after a number of weeks out with illness, so much so that he was forced to miss competing for Lincolnshire in the 400m hurdles last weekend.

On Wednesday, Kieran ran the 800m and went within a couple of seconds of his personal best, crossing the finish line in 2min 34sec. He also achieved 7.62m in the shot put.

Father Jim said: “I was very pleased just to see him running again. These are pleasing performances showing that he is moving in the right direction.”

Kieran will be competing for Lincolnshire in the Anglian Schools Combined Events Championships, in Essex, this weekend, this time tackling the octathlon.

Meanwhile, Jim won the masters category in the shot put at Loughborough with 8.84m. On Sunday, Jim will be competing in the Eastern Masters Championships in Luton, where he contest the shot and the discus.
