Wragby father and son athletes Jim and Kieran Gillespie competed in the second of three winter indoor meetings at Loughborough at the weekend.
Kieran finished second in the 60 metres hurdles in 10.16 seconds, just 1/100th of a second outside his personal best. He then came second again in the shot put with 8.64 metres, only a couple of inches short of his best.
Meanwhile, father Jim won the shot with 8.71 metres.
Jim said: “I was hoping for further as training has been going very well. I have a couple of weeks off competition, then I’m going to Swindon to compete in their winter throws series, doing the heavy throws triathlon. This comprises the hammer, shot and heavy weight throw.
“I am the Irish national record holder for the heavy weight, so I’m hoping to make up some big points in that event to give my triathlon score a boost.”
