Mickey Stones was impressed by Horncastle Town’s professional attitude as they hammered Spalding United Development 13-0 on Saturday.

Michael Harness netted four times with Jac Wright and Jack Wood both grabbing braces at The Wong.

Nadir Boulaird, Jasper Caudwell, Richard Jackson and Scott Lowman also found the net before manager Stones had the final say in a rare appearance off the bench.

“It’s a difficult one, sometimes you don’t enjoy the games that are too easy,” Stones said.

“But saying that, it was competitive right up until half time.

“We were 1-0 up until a few minutes before half time and then scored two quick goals.

“We scored again about 20 seconds into the second half and that killed the game.

“But we scored good goals and played well. We kept our shape, we didn’t just throw men forward.”

Stones also believes that strikers Harness and Wright bagging six between them will also do their confidence a world of good.

He added: “It’s really good, you want the right people scoring.

“Michael’s had a difficult time, he wasn’t in the side last season but he’s come back looking a lot sharper and looks like he’s back to his best for us.

“It will do Jac’s confidence some good too. He came in looking to score goals.”

The result leaves Horncastle sixth in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League, eight points behind leaders Brigg Town CIC.

For Stones, his goal was the first time he had found the net since March 2015, following problems with a recurring knee injury.

“I’ve been working hard in the gym for the last three years just to get to a point that I feel comfortable with my knee, so it felt like a nice reward to get the goal,” he added.

“I’m happy to be on the bench if needed.”
