Horncastle Town kicked off their pre-season campaign at home to Holbeach United on Tuesday night.

Paul Johnson’s squad will be put to the test again on Saturday when they welcome East Midlands Counties League side Barrow Town to The Wong.

The team from Barrow-upon-Soar ended last season with a mid-table finish and bearing in mind they play at Step Six level, it will certainly be a stern test for The Wongers. Note, kick-off is 2pm.

Town will play their first away fixture of their pre-season schedule when they make the trip to Eslaforde Park to play Sleaford Town next Tuesday.

Sleaford did just enough last season to avoid relegation from the UCL Premier Division last season, finishing in 19th place. However, they will be aiming to improve on that next season under new management and will be strong opposition for Town. Kick-off is 7.30pm.

Pinchbeck United will be the visitors to The Wong on Saturday, July 25. Their last campaign saw them achieve a mid-table finish in the Peterborough and District League after narrowly avoiding relegation the previous year. Kick-off 3pm.

Horncastle travel to North Somercotes United on Saturday, August 1, kick-off 3pm.

It will be the third consecutive year Town and North Somercotes have played each other in pre-season, and the 2014/15 East Lincs Cominations League champions always prove to be worthwhile opponents as both teams prepare for the respective campaigns.

The annual John Rawdon Memorial Trophy fixture will be played on Wednesday, August 5 as Town welcome Boston United’s under-21 side to The Wong. Kick-off 7pm.

Last season this fixture was played mid-season due to the construction of Horncastle’s new clubhouse but returns to its more familiar pre-season slot once again.

Town will round off their pre-season preparations as they make the short trip east to play Spilsby Town Saturday, August 8.

It is a big season for The Magpies who finished runners-up to Swineshead last year and will be keen to go one better this time around in the Boston and District League Premier Division. Kick-off 3pm

The newly sponsored Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League will begin on the following Saturday.
