Horncastle Town 11 William Foster Reserves 0
Town’s Development Squad came of age on Sunday to serve up their best performance of the season and demolish William Foster in Division Five of the Lincoln and District League on Sunday.
The match was a triumph for strikers Luke Blondel and Tom Sewell, but it was unfair to single out after a superb team performance.
Town, full of confidence after last week’s performance, started on the front foot.
They were happy to play from the back with ‘keeper Liam Smith setting up a number of attacks in motion with some shred distribution,
Defenders Callum Hotchin and Joe Wilkinson played quality balls into midfielders Henry Lydiatt and George Swift who, in turn, supplied an excellent service to Luke Blondel and Sewell.
It was only a matter of time before Blondel fired his first of the day passed the ‘keeper.
Town continued to push the opposition back and a fine ball into Sewell from central midfielder Callum Low led to a second goal for Town.
Town dominated the rest of the first half and a couple of decent chances could have led to a more convincing advantage.
The second half started well for the visitors. They had a good 15 minute spell and put Town under pressure.
Town weathered the storm and started to apply relentless pressure and it wasn’t long before their efforts paid off,
Fantastic one and two touch football by Town’s midfielders and saw Blondel net another three goals and partner Sewell sealed a hat trick, as did Andrew Bullivant whose treble capped a fine performance.
Assistant Manager Alan Wilkinson said: “We knew that one day everything would click and we would play like this. I don’t think I’ve seen a better performance on the Wong all season.”
