Horncastle Town’s hopes of strengthening their position at the top of the Sills and Betteridge League table have been dashed by the weather.
Town’s clash at CGB Humbertherm tomorrow (Saturday) has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
It’s a blow for boss Paul Johnson and his players who were chasing a tenth consecutive league win.
A battling 2-1 victory at Sleaford Town last Saturday moved Town into first place and with all the other leading clubs involved in Challenge Cup quarter final action tomorrow, three points would have moved ‘The Wongers’ into an even stronger position.
Town would have been without Chris Johnson and Scott Lowman but Ollie Johnson, Carl Smith, Tom Sargeant and Nathan Rawdon were all looking to challenge for a starting place.
Town’s Reserves are in action tomorrow when they travel to Monson in the Lincoln and District League.
A 1-0 win over previous leaders Birchwood last Saturday boosted Town’s position in fourth place in the table.
*Town’s Development Squad will host Saxilby Sports at The Wong on Sunday in Division Five of the Lincoln League.
There is also a programme of junior fixtures.
