Horncastle Town Reserves 3 FC Hammers 2
Town’s new-look reserve squad made it two wins out of two from their pre-season campaign with a fought success against Boston League opposition FC Hammers at the Wong last Saturday
There were seven changes from the previous week’s victory at Coningsby with newcomers Darren Trapmore, Nadir Boulaird and goalkeeper Jason Stamford all coming in alongside youngster Ash Bullivant, who made his senior debut.
FC Hammers hit the post early on, but Town hit back only to find the visiting ‘keeper in fine form, saving a snapshot from youngster Ben Fidling and a glancing header from Nadir Boulaird.
The visitors took the lead against the run of play, but it wasn’t long before Town levelled as Josh Cheetham volleyed in from three-yards after a cross from Andrew Bullivant.
With half time approaching, Town went on the attack and a low driven cross from Ben Fiddling was put into his own net by the defender.
Town wasted no time increasing their lead as they scored straight for the re-start as George Swift rifled a 25-yard curler into the top corner to make it 3-1 at half time.
The second half was a much closer affair as FC Hammers made eight changes and they pulled a goal back in the 65th minute from a corner.
In driving rain, Town defended in determined style and hung on for a win their first half efforts deserved.
*Their next warm-up game is at Boston Premier Division side Skegness Town Reserves at Burgh Road on Friday.
Town reserves: Stamford, Garnett, Lewis, Trapmore, Bodily, Fidling, Cheetham, Bullivant, Maplethorpe, Swift, Boulaird (Bullivant).
