Sleaford Seahawks 3-1 Horncastle Town Development XI

Continuous pressure and some good possession football was not rewarded on Sunday as Horncastle Town Development XI lost 3-1 at Sleaford.

Town were full of confidence from recent results and started well against a well organised Sleaford side.

The game started at a great pace with Sleaford having most of the possession, great defensive work from central defenders Harry Simmons and Dave Maplethorpe led to a frustrating first 20 minutes for the Sleaford Strikers.

With the wind behind the home side most of the football was played in the Town Half. Central midfielders Callum Low and Andrew Bullivant kept possession well and played some quality balls in behind the Sleaford defence for town strikers Luke Blondell and George Swift, unfortunately their efforts were not rewarded.

A quality ball into the box led to a simple tap in for Sleaford to take the lead and they made it two just before half time.

The second half got underway and Horncastle had all the ball and continued to press the play and put the Sleaford midfield and defenders under pressure.

Town continued to create chances but couldn’t take them. Will Burton and Tom Sewell played good quality balls into the front two, but again Town couldn’t find the back of the net and against the run of play Sleaford went up the other end and got a third goal.

Town from the restart still put Sleaford under pressure, creating several chances, eventually Sleafords High line defence was breached by Luke Blondell who went through and chipped the ‘keeper to make it 3-1 to Sleaford.

Manager Mark Simmons said: “I wanted my lads to come here and compete, regardless of the result I wanted a performance and I got that, we were unlucky not to come away with at least a point, This young side continues to de me proud “
