Horncastle Six-a-side League
OGFC returned to winning ways with a comfortable win over Beercelona in a match that was effectively over by half time.
Sean Calvert will be disappointed not to have received the man of the match award for a stunning array of first half finishing to seal a hat trick as OGFC banished last week’s memory with quick and clinical play to go in 4-0 up at half time.
The second half saw a galvanised Beercelona grab one back through Jay Peterson, but Jack Harland earned the man of the match performance with a sublime first time strike after a back heel from Peterson set him up to fire home the goal of the season.
The two goals were all Beercelona could rustle up and had their keeper Sean Gilbody to thank for some great stops to keep OGFC out in the second half
Ivory Toast FC 0
Ginger Gaffer FC 1
Ivory Toast started extremely well and looked in confident mood following last week’s win in their friendly over RAFCATS.
It was Ginger Gaffer, however, who created the better chances and Adam Whittaker forced a great save from the Toast keeper as he tipped over in an even first half which ended 0-0.
The second half again was a close affair with man of the match Dan Burn controlling play in the middle and again commanding in the air.
Both teams went close until Ryan Hughes finished off an excellent one-two by stabbing home what proved to be the winner.
Spandau Pele 1
Spandau Pele were torn apart last week by Beercelona but started more solidly this week.
RAFCATS, who are only one point behind the top spots, will be smarting off a winless streak which has now reached three matches.
This was a game where they performed well but had to rely on a man of the match performance from their keeper Matt Collins who made some important saves but was unable to prevent Spandau grabbing the all important solitary goal to put Pele level on points with RAFCATS in joint fourth.
Bantalona vs Tekkerslovakia (both 5-0 wins)
Bantalona had this week’s points match but played Tekkerslovakia who also earned a 5-0 win, after Team Lean were unable to fulfil their fixture, to go joint top with OGFC and Ginger Gaffer.
The friendly was an entertaining game with man of the match awards handed out to both Tony Flannery and Marvin Lea for combative performances in an even affair which saw both keepers in good form.
Bantalona’s win keeps them level on points with Team Lean and Ivory Toast.
