Horncastle Town U15s 1

Town U15s had high hopes of getting their season back on track at Birchwood on Sunday, but suffered a heavy defeat.

After an even first 10 minutes, Birchwood took the lead from an own goal after Town’s defence struggled with a cross.

Town managed to equalise midway through the first half. A scramble in the box from a corner saw the ball fall to Daniel Nixon and he made no mistake.

The goal injected confidence into Town and they almost took the lead, but Bruntlett’s shot went inches over the bar.

Just before half time, Birchwood regained the lead following a good finish from a long ball.

It was stalemate in the opening stages of the second half with defences on top and there were few chances at either end.

However, Birchwood extended their lead when they scored directly from a corner and they completed their victory in the last minute when one of their forwards chipped over Horncastle ‘keeper Carlton.

After two consecutive poor performances, Horncastle will be looking to bounce back on Sunday when they meet Boston Community.
