FOOTBALL: Melton’s magic weaves a winning spell for Horncastle U11s

An impressive performance from Alfie Melton was the highlight of Town’s hard earned win at Kirton on Sunday.

In-form Town had to work vhard for the three points and found themselves trailing after Kirton took an early lead.

It was 1-1 at the break but Melton and his teammates dug deep and to serve up a sparkling second half display.

Town keeper William Chamberlain was busy in the opening exchanges and could have no complaints when Kirton went ahead.

Melton went close as Town desperately tried to get back into the game but Kirton’s keeper gathered well.

Town continued to improve after their slow start but Cotton fired wide and Ethan Burton-Melling was denied by a flying save.

Cotton did eventually level from the penalty spot but Town knew they had a battle on their hands in the second half.

To their credit, Town looked much sharper and went ahead for the first time with a header from Cotton after good work from Isaac Bontoft and Sam Hull.

Melton set up the all-important third goal which a great run and lay-off to Burton-Melling who made no mistake with a powerful finish.

Town sealed the win in style as Cotton found Melton 20 yards from goal and he struck an exquisite lob over the keeper.
