FOOTBALL: Mareham fall to fifth defeat in a row


Mareham United went down 5-1 against Billinghay Athletic thanks to a hat-trick from striker Jac Wright. Jasper Caudwell grabbed the other two goals consigning the Fieldsiders to their fifth defeat in a row.

Mareham are in 10th place in the Boston Taylors Service Garage Premier League on 10 points, seven ahead of bottom side Freiston.

Their next game is against third in the league Spilsby Town on January 4.

Both Coningsby and Woodhall Spa United picked up wins in Division One leaving them both on 20 points over Christmas.

Coningsby picked up a 3-2 win at home to Billinghay Athletic Reserves thanks to goals from Sam Brader, Ali Smith and Danny Barker.

Spa, also playing at home, beat Wainfleet United 2-1 with goals from Jason Cooke and Matthew Sargeant.

Coningsby will travel to Ruskington Rovers this weekend and will then travel to Skegness United Reserves for their first game of 2014.

Woodhall Spa welcome bottom side Billinghay Athletic and will welcome Fosdyke in the Challenge Cup on January 4.

In Division Two Mareham United Reserves welcomed local rivals Coningsby Reserves and the sides played out a 0-0 draw.

Mareham are currently bottom of the league with Coningsby 10 points ahead of them in 10th place.

Coningsby Reserves welcome Westside Rangers this weekend and are then at home to Friskney on January 4.

AFC Tetford suffered a setback to their bid for promotion as they were beaten 6-2 by top of the table Boston College.

Tetford could have brought themselves to within one point of the Boston side but are now four points behind the pace at the top of the table.

Their next game will be held on January 11 when they welcome Sutterton Reserves.
