Fulbeck United 5-4 Horncastle Town Reserves

Town’s Reserves fell just short of the mark in their brave bid for a revenge win at Lincoln and District League rivals Fulbeck United on Saturday.

Town travelled looking to put a 4-1 defeat at home Fulbeck in their last game firmly behind them.

A much changed team produced a terrific performance and looked set for a well-deserved point - until Callum Low turned the ball into his own net with less than five minutes left on the clock.

Both sides struggled in the windy conditions, but Fulbeck took the lead on 27 minutes with a header that gave ‘keeper William Wood no chance.

The goal seemed to give Town some urgency and it wasn’t long before Luke Blondel had levelled. Ryan Beaumont’s hard work forced a mistake from the Fulbeck defender and misplaced a pass for Blondel to beat the ‘keeper.

Things got even better when Town took the lead straight from the re-start. This time, it was right winger Josh Cheetham who forced a mistake. Blondel picked out Jamie Lamming whose shot hit the bar and Beaumont tucked away the rebound.

Town knew they were lucky to be 2-1 ahead at the break but soon increased their lead when Daniel Garnett found himself in an attacking position and played a lovely weighted ball to Andrew Bullivant to run onto and place in the bottom right hand corner of the net.

But Fulbeck would not lie down and drew level after a quick-fire double.

Blondel put Town back in front with a cool finish but Fulbeck immediately responded and made it 4-4 from their next attack.

It was a costly lapse as Fulbeck staged a left wing raid and Low could only turn the cross into his own net. It was rough justice on Town who hope to bounce back at home to Lincoln Moorlands Reserves on Saturday.
