FOOTBALL: Lamming hoping his special reserves can come out on top

Horncastle Town’s reserve team manager Jamie Lamming admits his side would love to round off their season in winning style tomorrow (Saturday).

Town’s second string take on Saxilby Athletic in the final of the Horace Franklin Cup at Lincoln United’s Ashby Road ground.

Town booked their place with an impressive 3-1 against FC Monos last Saturday at The Wong and Lamming would happily settle for a repeat of that performance - and the result.

He says: “The lads have worked really hard this season and it would be good to round things off with a trophy.”

Lamming is still to finalise his squad but the likes of skipper Scott Maplethorpe, Luke Blondel and James Blondel could all be key figures along with striker Lewis Burchnall.

There is a chance Town could be bolstered by a couple of senior squad members as the first team prepare for their own cup final appearance tomorrow week.

They will meet Sills and Betteridge League rivals Gainsborough Town in the final of the Supplementary Cup, again at Ashby Avenue.

Any silverware would, of course, be displayed in Town’s new-look clubhouse which is rapidly taking shape.

The state-of-the-art facility - featuring new changing rooms - is due to open in time for the start of the next season.
