Caythorpe and Fulbeck 3-2 Horncastle Town Under 12s

Horncastle Town came out on the wrong side of a five goal thriller as they fought back from behind twice but couldn’t hold out to register their first points of the season.

The opening goal came for Caythorpe and Fulbeck and a long kick by the goalkeeper bounced through Town’s defence and a striker ran on and finished tidily.

Horncastle found an equaliser through the head of Kasey Pearce. He won a free kick in the corner and then headed in a superb cross from Oliver Burgess.

Pearces link up play and ability to hold the ball gave Town the chance to go ahead as he forced a corner. When the ball was crossed in the referee adjudged a hand had been used and a penalty was given. Liam Cotton stepped up but his penalty was scuffed wide.

The second half saw Ethan Burton-Melling in lively form, unfortunately he couldn’t quite get enough power on a shot with the ‘keeper to beat.

Caythorpe and Fulbeck took the lead when a lofted pass beat the Town back line and the hosts striker hit a superb shot into the back of the net.

Again Town fought back to equalise. Spencer Burgess and Kasey Pearce fashioned an opening down the left and Pearce hit a left foot shot from a narrow angle to find the back of the net.

Town almost took the lead when Liam Cotton fired an excellent pass into Ethan Burton-Mellings path but his shot went wide of the near post.

It was a backs to the wall finish for Horncastle as the home side continuously pressed forward and forced a series of corners, but it was a superb goal that settled the contest. A lovely through ball was seized upon and the Caythorpe and Fulbeck player produced a clinical finish into the far corner.

It was a superb encounter and both teams can be proud of their efforts. Next week sees Town play Rustons Sports in the cup.
