Town’s U15s produced a grandstand finish at rivals Hykeham last Sunday but had left themselves with too much to do.

Town trailed 4-1 going into the closing stages but late goals from Ben Wythe and James Bruntlett went desperately close to salvaging a point.

In the end, Town paid the ultimate price for an indifferent 15-minute spell when Hykeham took advantage of poor defending to build what proved to be their match-winning lead

The opening exchanges were even and Town had the first clear sight of goal, but Wythe shot straight at the home ‘keeper.

Hykeham took the lead five minutes later after a mistake at the back.

Straight after the half time break, Hykeham added a second and a third goal after more poor defending.

Town pulled one back on the 60 minute mark and looked to be back in the game when Wythe found the back of the net with a deflected shot.

However, the joy was short lived and as Hykeham made it 4-1 after an impressive individual goal.

Wythe scored his second of the game after fine work from Daniel Nixon and Tom Johnson and Brunlett both went close.

In the last minute, Wythe was bundled over in the box and Brunlett stepped up to score the resulting penalty.

Town’s next game is on February 2 when they host to Boston Town Saints.
