FOOTBALL: Horncastle Town battle to beat big freeze in title bid

Horncastle Town will be hoping to beat the weather - and opponents Ruston Sports - tomorrow (Saturday) at The Wong and boost their quest for the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League title (ko: 3pm).

Town’s top of the table clash against Skegness Town was frozen off last Saturday, leaving them in third place in table.

Boss Paul Johnson’s side are three points behind Skegness and two behind second placed club Wyberton.

However, Town have a game in hand on Skegness and five in hand over Wyberton who were surprisingly beaten last weekend.

Hykeham Town have also crept into the title battle and a 3-2 win at Ruston last weekend has moved them to within a point of Town.

Town should be at full strength tomorrow with midfielder Richard Jackson aiming to carve out the chances for leading scorer Michael Harness and fellow frontmen Tony Edwards and Mickey Stones.

Town have won their last five games and apart from mid-table Ruston, their major problem could be the state of the pitch with another bitterly cold night forecast tonight.

Town’s reserves are also scheduled to be in action tomorrow when they travel to Saxilby Athletic in a Lincoln League clash.

The reserves will be looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat against RM Imp in the David Cooper Cup last Friday as they bid to step up their challenge for a top four place.

*Town’s Development Squad will entertain William Foster Reserves in a Lincoln and District Sunday League game at The Wong (10.45am).
