FOOTBALL: Harpars look to beat Burtons in race for Sunday League title

Horncastle based AFC Harpars can take a major step toward some silverware this Sunday.

They entertain Burtons FCW at Horncastle Playing fields (10.45am) looking for a win which would edge them ever closer to the Division Three title in the Sills and Betteridge Sunday League.

Harpars have led the table for most of the campaign and romped to a 4-0 victory against main rivals Trent Valley last Sunday.

Leading scorer Michael Harness bagged a hat trick as Harpars moved seven points clear of Trent Valley who do have three games in hand.

While Harpars take on third from bottom Burtons, Trent Valley visit mid-table Lincoln Claytons.

It would be a blow if Harpars miss out on the title as they have dominated the league this term, scoring 73 goals from 18 games and conceding only 29.

In Division One, recent results mean Wragby FC’s title hopes are all but over. They trail leaders Hykeham by ten points but have also played one game more.

Wragby are without a fixture this Sunday while the other four teams above them in the table are all in action.

In Division Two, Woodhall Spa are also kicking their heels in frustration in the battle for the title.

Woodhall have topped the table for most of the campaign but have seen Ruston United draw level with them.

Both sides have 38 points but Woodhall have played 19 games and Ruston 17. Third placed Travellers Rest (37 points from 17 games) are still in with a shout of the title.
