FOOTBALL: Harness double downs Vodaphone

AFC Harpars 4 FC Vodaphone 0

Leading scorer Michael Harness bagged his 30th goal of the season as top-of-the-table Harpars AFC bounced back to winning ways in Division Three of the Sills and Betteridge Sunday League.

The win saw the Horncastle-based side maintain the pressure on arch rivals Trent Valley in the race for the title.

Centre back Gareth Butler opened the scoring for the home side as he popped up at the back post to fire home Carl Smith’s cross.

Harness doubled the advantage just before half time with a sweetly struck right footed effort from the edge of the area.

Harness scored again just seconds into the second half when James White’s through ball put him one-on-one with the Vodafone ‘keeper and he made no mistake in converting the opportunity. Carl Smith rounded off the day’s action with a powerful side footed shot from 20-yards, giving the visiting ‘keeper no chance and securing all three points.

Harpars next game is on March 23 against Trent Valley at Horncastle Playing fields.
