Horncastle Town U14s 5 Rustons Sports U14s 3
Town U14s produced a battling performance to take all three points
There was a minutes a silence before the kick off in memory of 14-year-old Jordan Eyre from Louth, who was tragically killed in a road accident recently.
Rustons took the lead but Town quick levelled with a cracking strike from the edge of the box by Cori Pearce.
Three minutes later, Town took the lead when Wood set up Oliver Dean to slot a shot past the ‘keeper.
Rustons levelled, but Town responded quickly with some excellent football between Pearce and Ross-Lea that set up Harry Close to score just before the half time whistle.
Town had a chance to pull further in front when Close was brought down in the box, but skipper Pearce put the spot kick over the bar.
Ayres produced a fine save to deny Rustons and at the other end, Wilson was denied by the woodwork.
However, Wilson enjoyed better luck soon after when his excellent cross found Dean, who made no mistake for his second of the game.
Rustons again hit back and against the run of play they claimed their third goal of the game to leave the reult in the balance.
However, it was Town who struck the winning blow when Rhys Bevington, who had just been fouled, picked himself up and turned a Close cross into the net.
