It was a quiet start to 2016 for sides in the Lincoln League with just four teams in action. Despite this, victory for the two anticipated winning sides saw them both climb the table.

For Horncastle Town Reserves, who were playing only their second home game, they moved to the head of the table with a convincing 5-0 win over winless Railway Inn. Netting twice with his eighth goal in the last four games was Rob Morey. Also bagging two was Luke Blondel with his eighth goal of the campaign, one behind Morey’s total, while Ash Bond scored his first of the season.

Despite defeat for The Railway, it was the first occasion they had failed to score since the opening day of the season.

Victory lifted Horncastle above previous leaders Birchwood United by one point, having played a game more.

Also victorious on the opening game of 2016 were Fulbeck United who entertained and beat AFC Crown and Arrows 4-1. This saw them maintain their unbeaten league record and climb into third position, one point behind Birchwood and above Cherry Willingham on goal difference.

On target for them with two goals was Paul Crampton (his sixth of the season), along with one from Will Allen (his 12th of the season, but only second in the league) and Callum Clay (his sixth). Danny Bee netted the visitors goal with his ninth of the season.

For Fulbeck, it was only the second league goal they have conceded and the first in six games.
