Horncastle Town served up a superb performance on Saturday to stun rivals Sleaford Town and book a place in the Supplementary Cup Final.
Town shrugged off the absence of several key players to grab a deserved 2-0 victory in a hard fought semi final with goals from Steve Brown and Tony Edwards.
They will now meet Gainsborough Town in the final at Lincoln United’s Ashby Avenue Ground on May 10.
Town started without four front line players. Danny Bent and Nathan Rawdon were injured and Steve Lovett and Michael Harness unavailable.
Olly Johnson played despite being unwell while captain Chris Johnson, Dave Marshall, Andy Shinn and Steve Brown all came through fitness tests during warm up.
Edwards started up front on his own with Scott Lowman playing just behind him.
Town faced a slope and the wind in the first half but almost made the perfect start when Lowman managed to get his shot off from a tight angle, but the ‘keeper produced a good save.
Town continued to press and edged in front on 20 minutes when Lowman had a shot blocked but it rebounded to the feet of Brown who calmly tucked his effort home.
Edwards went close to putting Town two up before Sleaford hit the bar just before the break.
The second half started much like the first with Town enjoying the majority of possession.
On 70 minutes Town struck the hammer blow.
Gareth Melia collected the ball on the left and delivered a pin point cross to the head of Edwards who found the bottom corner.
Town rang the changes but their defence of Shinn, Marshall, Chris Johnson and the impressive Callum Low held firm to complete the shut-out
The final whistle sparked celebrations among the players and the travelling ‘Wongers’.
