Horncastle Town U15s saw their hopes of bouncing back to winning ways in the league sunk by a slick Saxilby side on Sunday.

There were no goals in the opening period but it went wrong for Town in the second half, despite a battling performance.

Saxilby had more of the opportunities in the first 45 minutes and had the majority of the possession.

After 15 minutes, they came close to scoring after an excellent strike from the edge of the box which forced Horncastle ‘keeper Carlton to make a very good save.

Ten minutes later, Town carved out a chance, but Brockman shot just wide after good work from Nixon and Wythe.

Saxilby took the lead five minutes into the second half after a cross-field ball hit a Horncastle player and was deflected into the net.

They soon doubled their lead after a high cross was deflected to the feet of their striker who hit a half volley into the bottom corner.

Town recovered and twice went close to scoring, Bruntlett almost lobbed the ‘keeper but the ball was cleared off the line and moments later, the same could not quite find the finish after receiving a cross from Wythe.

Saxilby made it 3-0 after a well struck free kick from the edge of the box hit the post and went in.

Town finally pulled a goal back after Hunt took a great free kick from 35-yards, which curled into the top corner of the goal.

Moments later, Wythe just failed to convert a through ball by Whythe and it was Saxilby who completed the scoring in the last minute.
