FOOTBALL: Andy’s so handy as terrific Town stun Saxilby

Horncastle Development Squad 4-2 Saxilby

A sparkling hat trick from Andrew Bullivant was the highlight of Horncastle Town Development Squad’s impressive win against Lincoln and District League Division Five rivals Saxilby at The Wong on Sunday.

Town started positively and constant pressure led to numerous chances for strikers Tom Sewell and Luke Blondel

As so often happens, it was Town’s opponents who took the lead against the run of play. A corner led to a scramble in the penalty box and a close range striker found the back of the net.

Town continued to play and a quality through ball from George Swift led to a great strike from Blondell to make it 1-1.

Encouraged by the goal, town pressed on and a fine move - started by Callum Hotchin in left midfield - resulted in Bullivant hammering in his first of the game.

The second half began as the first with Town having all the possession as they pressed on in search of goals.

Right back Joe Wilkinson played some quality balls in and around the Saxilby defence as Town looked for a third goal.

It duly came when Callum Low found Bullivant whose excellent finish beat the ‘keeper to make it 3-1.

However, the visitors clawed their way back following a controversial free kick. Town ‘keeper Liam Smith got his fingertips to the ball but couldn’t prevent it crossing the line.

With their lead down to a single goal, Town made a substitution when Henry Lyddiat came on for the hard working, but worn out, Callum Hotchin.

Lyddiat went close with a rasping effort that stroked the post, but Town made it four from a throw in.

Lyddiat played a ball into Tom Sewell, who in turn linked with Bullivant who found the top right corner of the net to complete his hat trick and make it 4-2.

In the closing stages, Town continued to play attacking passing football without managing to add to their lead.

Manager Mark Simmons said: “It was so important to get all three points, especially after last week’s abandoned game following Will Burton’s serious injury.”
