Horncastle 120

Hykeham 122-7

Home side Hykeham won the toss and decided to put Horncastle in to bat.

Opener Lewis Lovegrove racked up 34 runs before he was caught by Paul Buffham off the bowling of Thomas Irving.

Irving quickly dispatched Jack Tate (1) and Ben Fidling was caught for 12 off August Pandey’s bowling.

Top scorer was Horncastle skipper Nathan Whiting (51), but from there on it went downhill.

Gareth Jones and Peter George both went for a duck, with Michael Ackerman (4), Ben Wilkinson (2) and wicket keeper Jonathan Clark (10) the only others to get on the scoresheet.

Tail-enders Danny Wells and Steve Beckett were bowled for ducks by Chirag Ahir as Horncastle fizzled out in 29.1 overs.

Jones did better with the ball, taking three Hykeham wickets including openers Andy Moon (4) and Levi Mobbs for a duck. Lovegrove caught Nicholas Green for two, again off a Jones ball.

Hykeham’s innings foundations were laid down by Alan Ashton (55) and captain Irving (20) who both went to the bowling of Lovegrove, caught by George and Tate respectively.

Pandey went lbw to Lovegrove when on 13 whilst Reece Moyses (0) went the same way off a Whiting delivery.

Hykeham reached their target in 23.1 overs, with Jordan Brown (12) and Buffham remaining unbeaten.
