Woodall Spa CC warmed up for the new season last weekend with two competitive friendlies against Gedling CC and Skegness CC at a breezy Jubilee Park.

Woodhall won Saturday’s encounter by 50 runs having posted 259 off their allotted 45 overs with excellent contributions from Captain Jack Luffman along with new signings Ross Dixon and South African Etienne Botha. The bowlers then restricted Gedling to 198 for 9, wickets being shared between Paul Timby, Lewis Holmes, Connor Parsons, Ross Dixon and Etienne Botha.

On Sunday Skegness batted first and made an impressive 248 off their 40 overs with Pete Houghton top scoring with a well constructed half century.

Woodhall in reply showed their intent with 47 without loss off 6 overs with Jack Luffman again leading the way with 40 not out, unfortunately poor weather then intervened and the game was eventually abandoned without another ball being bowled.

All in all coach Paul Timby was very happy with the time spent in the middle in preparation for the start of the league campaign this Saturday.

He said: “It was really important to give the majority of the first and second team squad game time over the weekend and we managed to achieve that, with all of the batters and bowlers contributing.

“We move forward onto Saturday in a positive frame of mind knowing if we play to our capabilities then both teams will be extremely competitive in their respective leagues.”

Tomorrow, the first team travel to Spalding Town CC for a 12-noon start with a full squad to choose from, whilst the second team host Stamford Town at Jubilee Park where play gets underway at 1pm.
